Abstract
Stroke is a devastating trauma and the most common disabling neurological disease of adult life. The treatment and reintegration of patients with hemiplegia is an important and challenging area in the field of medicine. In Korea, most stroke patients are treated using oriental medicine, but there have been few reports on the functional recovery. The aim of this study was to identify how much the change is in the functional recovery of 128 stroke inpatients. The authors used MBI and NIH stroke scale to measure the changes. The results of the study identified that the mean scores of MBI on admission and discharge time are 41.93 and 65.28, and the mean scores of NIH stroke scale on admission and discharge time are 6.82 and 4.02. The affecting factors on MBI change are site of brain lesion, previous stroke, heart diseases, and on NIH stroke scale change is diabete mellitus. These results mean when we manage the stroke we have to consider some important factors and inform the patient and his family of the amount of recovery and durations.
